ATM Cave - Gateway to Xibalba
Tour Description:
Actun Tunichil Muknal (the Cave of the Crystal Sepulchre), known locally as ATM cave, is located near the foothills of the Maya Mountains and is one of the most notable Mayan archaeological sites in Belize, recognised as the #1 ceremonial cave in the world by National Geographic. During this tour, you’ll have the opportunity to see ancient Mayan artifacts and remains, including "The Crystal Maiden,” which is believed to be the sacrificial skeletal remains of a 17-year-old boy, whose bones have been calcified to a sparkling, crystallized appearance.
Note: This tour requires a 45 minute hike, with three river crossings, across mostly flat terrain to the cave entrance where you’ll spend 3+ hours exploring with an expert guide. Please note there will be tight places and climbing involved.
