Cockscomb Basin Jaguar Preserve

Tour Description:

Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary is a nature reserve in the Stann Creek District. It was established to protect the forests, fauna and watersheds of an approximately 400 square kilometer (150 sq mi) area of the eastern slopes of the Maya Mountains. The reserve was established in 1986 as the first protected area for protection of the jaguar (Panthera onca). It is regarded as a premier site for jaguar preservation in the world.

To start the morning we’ll be hiking the beautiful Tiger Fern trail leading us to the top to see the Cockscomb mountain range and Victoria Peak, the second tallest point in the country. Following the summit comes the highlight of the day, Tiger Fern’s double waterfalls, where we’ll stop to swim and enjoy a Belizean lunch.

To follow up the adventure comes an optional river tubing where we float down the South Stann Creek River that takes us roughly an hour. The tour day will finish with a stop at Maya Center Village where you can browse and purchase Mayan chocolate & souvenirs.
